Experiment with New Foods and Dietary Changes with Caution

One of the hardest things about diabetes is that it is a long term chronic disease that progresses slowly and therefore can be hard to catch, and all too easy to ignore until it is too late to avoid some of the complications of the disease.

The hidden benefit of this fact about diabetes is that you do not need to rush into anything too fast.

Any changes in foods can be made gradually. Any diabetes weight loss plan can be done gradually. Any lifestyle changes can be done gradually. You need to make all these changes, but you do not need to do them overnight.

Take your time!

Make sure your doctor is the best doctor for you. If you never had a hot chili pepper in your life before, don't make your first meal one with 15 habanero peppers in it! Experiment cautiously and let your body and your blood glucose meter be the final judge of what is working and what is not.

Keep your blood work test regular. Keep up with using your blood glucose monitor. Experiment. Find what works for you. You have time to do things right. If something doesn't work, change and try a new tactic.
